Apparently a few months off has done nothing to diminish the popularity of MTV's Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, the network's much talked about reality series which follows the celebrity marriage of former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey and "pop tart" Jessica Simpson.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Newlyweds' second season premiere on January 21 at 10 PM ET not only drew 4.7 million total viewers, but it also ranked first in its target Adults 12-34 demographic among all broadcast and cable networks in its time slot.

To help put Newlyweds strong premiere numbers in context, its premiere drew nearly a million more viewers than the recent season premiere of MTV's long-running (and still well performing) flagship reality program, The Real World. According to Zap2It, the recent January 6 premiere of The Real World: San Diego, the fourteenth edition of series, drew 3.89 million viewers -- which placed it eighth in the basic-cable ratings for its week (behind six Nickelodeon programs and Spike TV's WWE Raw.)
