TLC reportedly feels betrayed by family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar and his wife Michelle Duggar because they failed to disclose Josh's offenses and have kept those facts hidden for years.
Advertisers who are associated with 19 Kids & Counting have also bailed on their contracts in light of the controversy. Major companies such as Choice Hotels, Payless, David's Bridal, and Walgreens have publicly announced they are dropping ties with the reality show, which ultimately makes TLC lose money.
In addition, TLC previously canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo for good after the family's mother "Mama June" Shannon was rumored to be dating a convicted sex offender Mark McDaniel who had once molested her daughter Anna Cardwell. Shannon had insisted there was nothing serious going on between herself and McDaniel.
According to TMZ, Shannon is therefore threatening to sue the network if it doesn't cancel 19 Kids & Counting because she believes Josh's molestation scandal is much worse than what her situation had been. Shannon, calling it "a double standard," would argue "unfair and inconsistent treatment" in court.
"I didn't even do anything. It was just speculation over, like, rumors. I never dated the guy, I never touched my kid -- I think that's disgusting," Shannon told Extra in a Tuesday interview. "And our show was canceled immediately... It wasn't no break with us. It was like, seven hours after the news broke, canceled!"
However, reports have surfaced this week TLC might consider ditching 19 Kids & Counting and taking on a spinoff instead starring Jessa Duggar and her husband Ben Seewald as well as Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard. Both couples got married within the last year and have had exciting baby news in recent months.
"[The network] has invested a lot of time in developing these story lines and the last thing they want to do is to throw it all away," a source told Us Weekly, adding that Josh, however, will not be a part of any filming.
