"I am hoping that people will be respectful of our privacy during the divorce process. We have issued a statement asking that our children be respected as well."
Donatacci filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court on Thursday citing irreconcilable differences, People reported, adding that she is seeking primary physical custody of their 8-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son, as well as spousal support.
"I know people will be tempted to say some mean things. I realize that it is human nature but I ask that you be particularly sensitive to the feelings of my wife. She has been a terrific partner for many years and should not be treated with any disrespect at this time," wrote Grammer in subsequent Twitter posts.
"Things fell apart between us. That is all. She is still the mother of my children and any disparagement of her will only hurt the children. Camille did not want this but has made a very difficult decision and I respect her for it. I appreciate your kindness for all parties in this matter. Especially for her and the children."
Donatacci became Grammer's third wife when they wed in August 1997.
Bravo formally ordered The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills -- which will be the sixth edition of its reality franchise -- in March.
While the network has yet to formally announce the show's cast, Donatacci was reported to be one of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast members -- along with Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, wife of former Dr. 90210 plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif; Kim and Kyle Richards, Kathy Hilton's sisters; and Villa Blanca restaurant owner Lisa Vanderpump-Todd -- shortly after Bravo's pickup announcement.
