While still revealing few specific details about its upcoming Big Brother 5 reality show, CBS has started to tease the public with the release of an online promotional video that promises "twisted changes" and new show rules that are intended to penalize manipulative players.

Acknowledging that every Big Brother season is an ongoing battle with the show's houseguests and producers each attempting to outsmart each other, Chen explained that one of the house's big physical changes will involve one of the houseguest bedrooms. "Let me just say that there is one bedroom that is going to make the army cot that we had as a bed from previous seasons look comfortable," said Chen. "All the bedrooms are never created equal and this season there's one that going to be pretty bad, so you don't want to be the one stuck with that bedroom."
While failing to detail any other physical changes to the house, Chen did note that "I think these new rules are probably going to hurt people who go in as a manipulative player and help those that go in with a pure and open heart," a comment that would appear to be consistent with the rumors that this season's Head Of Household's will have the ability to, via surveillance equipment in their bedroom, utilize the program's numerous audio and video feeds to spy on the activities of their fellow houseguests.
Chen also hinted at a change involving the show's weekly Power Of Veto competition, which allowed its winner the option to save one of the two houseguests who were up for eviction that week by forcing the Head Of Household to replace them with another houseguest. "Every year, we have this thing called Power of Veto, where just because you're nominated doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be on the chopping block. But that Power of Veto, we're changing the rules, its gonna be a little more involved this year."
Big Brother 5 will premiere on CBS on Tuesday, July 6 at 8PM ET/PT with a special 90-minute episode. The 90-minute premiere of CBS' The Amazing Race 5 will follow at 9:30PM ET/PT.
After the premiere, the program will settle into its typical three-times-a-week, hour-long broadcast cycle, airing Tuesdays at 9PM ET/PT, Thursdays at 8 PM ET/PT, and Saturdays at 9 PM/ET. Similar to last year, the midweek Thursday edition of the program will feature the show's weekly live eviction of one of the houseguests.
