Aiken is "actively considering" a bid to represent North Carolina's second congressional district in the U.S. House and is already "sounding and acting like a candidate," a source told the website.
The Broadway star and runner-up of The Celebrity Apprentice's fifth season has reportedly taken the initial steps for a run, including consulting with political operatives in Washington D.C. Although it remains uncertain when Aiken might formally announce a decision, according to Democratic sources, he's been rallying support and examining polling data already.
Aiken is being guided by Betsy Conti, a political strategist who's worked for former North Carolina Governor Bev Purdue and Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore, the Blade reported.
The seat Aiken may be running for is currently taken by Republican Renee Ellmers. North Carolina Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco would reportedly give the singer a run for his money, as the Democrat will officially announce his candidacy on Monday.
The North Carolina primary is set for May 6 and the filing deadline is February 28.
