Clay Aiken's single just won't fade away. The American Idol 2 runner-up's debut, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" b/w "This Is The Night," celebrates its 12th straight week at #1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Canadian Singles Sales chart, holding off the challenge from Hilary Duff's "So Yesterday" for the third straight week. In addition, Clay's single reclaimed first place from Hilary's single on the Nielsen SoundScan U.S. Singles Sales chart, its 11th week at #1 in its 13th week on the chart.

Stuttering, though, is the American Juniors' single "One Step Closer." Although the single, recorded as the group was being formed on Fox's American Juniors this summer, reached #12 on the Canadian sales chart, a jump of 9 slots, it dropped two slots to #8 on the U.S. sales chart in its third week. It remains to be seen whether the cancellation by Fox of the American Juniors show will also cancel the song's chance of chart success.
Meanwhile, Idol winner Ruben Studdard's "Flying Without Wings" b/w "Superstar" held its positions once again: #3 on the U.S. chart for the sixth straight week and #4 on the Canadian chart for the fourth straight week.
One note: despite the continuing sales success of Clay Aiken and Hilary Duff's singles and of Hilary Duff's CD featuring her single, NEITHER SINGLE is ranked in the Top 50 on Billboard's farcical airplay-oriented U.S. Hot 100 chart. We hope that the people in the Billboard chart department didn't quit their day jobs.
