Troubled former American Idol finalist and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew participant Jessica Sierra now has a new responsibility on her plate: a newborn baby.

Sierra gave birth to a baby boy on December 5 at UCLA Medical Center, RadarOnline reported Saturday.

"I wouldn't say that it was planned. But I wasn't trying to prevent it. I'm not married and it wasn't like I was planning on having a child," she told RadarOnline.

"Things happen in life, and don't let your past get you down. You can always overcome -- you can overcome anything you want to and be a better person. Don't let people tell you that you can't."

Kayden Cash Sierra -- whose middle name refers to Sierra's affinity for Johnny Cash -- weighed 6 lbs., 12 ounces at birth.  Sierra declined to reveal the baby's father and instead told RadarOnline it is an "ex-boyfriend."

"But a very good friend -- a best friend," she told RadarOnline.

It was a bumpy road for Sierra after she finished tenth during American Idol's Spring 2005 fourth season.

She was arrested in April 2007 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine and introduction of contraband into a detention facility.

While she pleaded no contest to felony drug and battery charges, she was sentenced to 12-months probation and random drug screening -- for which was also required to complete a drug-rehab after-care program, which was filmed for Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew's Fall 2007 first season.

Following filming, Sierra was arrested again after being booted from a Florida bar and allegedly became physically and verbally combative with police.  She was charged with disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest without violence and probation violation before subsequently pleading not guilty.

However she was sentenced to a yearlong stint in rehab followed by three years probation.

In January 2008, Hillsborough County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Perry ordered Sierra stay at least 100 yards from microphones and cameras because he didn't want her to use treatment on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew as a way to aid her celebrity status and thus "glamorize" being a drug addict.

Perry's ruling had prevented Sierra from participating in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew's second season after her first-season stint proved to be unsuccessful. The media ban was lifted in April.

Sierra said she has been sober for two years and is currently in the studio working on a new album.

"On December 1, I got two years," she told RadarOnline. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not healed or anything. I still suffer from alcoholism."
