However, the Gosselin patriarch also admitted that his current life as a stay-at-home dad with eight children was never where he had imagined his life taking him.
"I always thought I'd be, like, 54-years-old and marry a 19-year-old or something," Jon told the Journal.
Kate also admitted to being taken aback by the attention the family received and noted that it has made the family's life more difficult at times.
"The fact that we are recognized, screamed at, mobbed and so often approached when we're together does make life difficult," she told the Journal.
However, Kate added that despite the challenges, she wouldn't want to return to her pre-sextuplet life.
"I wouldn't return to those days," she said.
Jon and Kate had revealed they were dealing with a clear disconnect as to whether they should continue with their hit TLC show during Jon & Kate Plus 8's fourth-season finale -- which aired on Monday, March 23 and drew a series record 4.6 million viewers.
"It's a lot of work. It's the best thing and it's the hardest thing I think that's ever happened, just our show in general," Kate said in the episode. "I personally have the ideal job. I love what I'm doing at this time. But it has gone through phases for all of us. Jon feels frustrated."
"It is hard being on this side of the camera, and not just sitting here, that's the easy part, but just going out in the world and trying to live your life," Jon said.
"People see your life as episodes and you see it as a date on the calendar," he added. "We don't have privacy at all. If I go out, people know I go out and photograph it and do everything they gotta do... That's tough for me. I can't be 'Jon,' I have to be 'Jon and Kate Plus 8,' which is a real hard thing for me. I still haven't come to grips with it."
"We have some ironing to do," Kate added "Were gonna take our little break and..."

"...Maybe we'll be back, maybe we won't," Jon interjected.
According to the New York Post, Jon and Kate's comments were filmed on the same day that tabloids began reporting an alleged February incident in which Jon was seen partying with college girls at a Huntington, PA, bar that is located three hours away from the new $1.3 million home he and his family recently bought.
While at the bar, he reportedly met some girls from Juniata College -- who subsequently invited him to a house party where he played beer pong.
Although Jon later denied that his marriage was on the rocks and called the reports "rumors and lies," the Post reported that the couple has recently been trying to heal their relationship.
"They're working on it," the source told the Post late last month. "After the finale, they spent some time alone -- without the kids."
TLC announced that Jon and Kate Plus 8 will indeed be returning for a fifth season last week.
