Full-size cutouts of the Ninja Turtles stood as an honor guard at 20-year-old David Smith's memorial service for his family and friends in Mexia, Texas.
Smith's memorial was attended by relatives from Mexia as well as friends from his more recent hometown of Los Angeles.
His relatives knew him as a child who liked to play cowboy, while a friend of his mother's, Jackie Hatten, said she knew Daniel as a sweet young man who kept to himself and kept his nose clean as an adult living in Los Angeles, the Tribune--Herald report said.
"Daniel was sweet, sensitive, respectful. He never cursed, never wanted to drink, never wanted to do drugs. He never even smoked a cigarette," she said in the newspaper report.
Smith died Sept. 10 in the Bahamas just days after his mother gave birth to a girl.
