Tom VanGundy and John Drake, members of Warriors' Watch Riders, a national volunteer group dedicated to supporting troops and offering welcomes and motorcycle escorts to service members overseas, rode their Honda bikes in the cold Saturday to escort Army 1st Lts. Anthony Huebner, 26, and Stephanie Thompson, 24, from Aurora's St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church to the reception at the Roundhouse, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.
"It's got Christmas, it's got a wedding, it's got everything," VanGundy said. "The bride and groom had no idea that we were coming. It's a good day."
The surprise escort was arranged by Huebner's mother, Carrie.
"It was definitely a surprise," Huebner said. "It's wonderful to see the support like that coming out. It's really touching. This means a lot to us, the support that we've received since we got back."
