Police in South Africa arrested Paris Hilton for marijuana possession but then released her, a publicist for the U.S. socialite and reality TV personality said.

However, Hilton's publicist subsequently told TMZ the celebrity was released after police questioned her. The Web site said investigators apologized for mistaking Hilton for a member of her entourage who was allegedly seen smoking marijuana at the match.
The unidentified other person pleaded guilty, paid a fine and also was released from police custody, Hilton's representative told TMZ.
The former star of "The Simple Life" pleaded no contest in 2007 to alcohol-related reckless driving.
