Five artists first took the stage one by one and sang with the wall up already. America had to vote "yes" or "no" via the Rising Star phone application for whether they'd like to see that person advance. Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley's votes only counted for three percent each this time around, so home viewers' votes have never been more crucial.
Audrey Kate Geiger, a 24-year-old from New York, NY, sang "New York State of Mind" and received a whopping 85% vote.
Joshua Peavy, a 28-year-old from Soperton, GA, took the stage with "American Woman" and earned a 71% vote to advance.
Dana Williams, a 25-year-old from Los Angeles, CA, sang "Human" and racked in a 57% "yes" vote.
Maneepat Molloy, a 16-year-old from Los Angeles, CA, performed "Your Song" and earned a score of 46%.
April Lockhart, an 18-year-old from Warren. NJ, sang "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and received a score of 27%.
The first five contestants each set a score to beat. Since April finished with the lowest percentage of the bunch, she was dubbed the "hot seat" contestant. If one of the remaining three contestants -- who had yet to perform -- received a score higher than 27%, he or she would take April's spot and join the group of contestants advancing to the semifinals.
The remaining three artists then performed one by one with the wall down. Each singer attempted to beat April low "hot seat" score to raise the wall and move forward in the competition. If the wall raised, the next lowest vote-getter would become the "hot seat" person.
Austin French, a 20-year-old from Tifton, GA, then took the stage with "House of the Rising Sun" and earned a score of 89%, which booted April from the competition and also beat the highest score of the night thus far -- which had belonged to Audrey Kate.
Shameia Crawford, a 30-year-old from Atlanta, GA, sang "Skyscraper" and raised the wall with a 54% "yes" vote. Shameia's score therefore kicked Maneepat off the show.
Jesse Kinch, a 20-year-old from Seaford, NY, then took the stage with "Money (That's What I Want)." His high score of 88% raised the wall, ousting Shameia from the Top 5 and the running to become the first "Rising Star."

Therefore, the five artists who will be advancing to the semifinals are Jesse, Austin, Joshua, Audrey Kate, and Dana.
Although three singers failed to advance to Rising Star's semifinals, one of them will be saved based upon the West Coast's voting totals. The Top 5 will become a Top 6 as a result. According to multiple reports, Maneepat will join the Top 6 semifinalists.
