Zap2It.com reports that the 2002-03 May Sweeps period ended Wednesday night on a very high note for FOX, as the finale of "American Idol" blew away its competition. The first hour of "Idol," featuring the mother of all recapping and foot-dragging, averaged 16.9/27 at 8PM. Mediaweek reports that as America gears up for the season finale, last night's installment of Fox's "American Idol" scored a whopping 16.9/25 from 8-9 p.m. -- 69 percent above the season finale of CBS's JAG (10.0/15) and the program's best ratings of the season. CBS has announced that an average of nearly 22 million viewers watched Jenna outwit, outplay and outlast Matthew and be crowned the ultimate "survivor," according to Nielsen preliminary affiliate based ratings for Sunday, May 11. ABC reports that with it's solid retention of its "The Bachelor" young adult lead-in, the April 30th episode of "Extreme Makeover" beat NBC's "Law & Order" for the second week in a row in Adults 18-34 (4.9/15 vs. 4.5/13) to win its time period.
