Third 'Apprentice 2' episode retains ratings despite stiff competition

Despite airing against the season premiere of CBS's top-ranked CSI and the second hour of a special two-hour season premiere of ABC's Extreme Makeover, the third episode of NBC's The Apprentice 2 held up well in the ratings, retaining nearly all of of its previous week's viewers and Adults 18-49 rating.

CBS's Big Brother 5 went out with a bang on Tuesday, drawing its biggest audience of the season and teaming with the two-hour finale of The Amazing Race 5 to give the network its first Tuesday evening premiere week victory since the late 80's/early 90's glory days of ABC's Who's The Boss, Moonlighting, and Roseanne.

The NFL is gone from Thursday night, and Donald Trump and NBC couldn't be happier. With ABC's special Thursday night broadcast of the football league's season opener not an issue last week, the second edition of The Apprentice rebounded sharply in the ratings, soaring 26% above the previous week's premiere rating and ending up as the ratings week's top-ranked show in the Adults 18-49 demographic.

The National Football League might have finally succeeded in getting Donald Trump to stop doing something that, despite numerous correction attempts, the press couldn't -- namely get the self-promoting Donald to stop (incorrectly) referring to The Apprentice as "the number one show on television."
