"It's been a long time coming and we're very happy. We're excited to finally be here," Kenny, an American who moved to Mexico after meeting Armando through a gay fathers support group, told the magazine.

"It was a battle in many ways, and so it's surreal to finally be able to get married," Armando added, referencing the fact that Mexican government officials had initially rejected their request for a gay marriage license and the COVID-19 pandemic then also forced the couple to postpone their wedding plans.

"We actually had a lot more time to think about it, and we planned an epic wedding and a lot of things worked out even to our advantage because we had to wait," Kenny said.

"We noticed that being locked down together, it made us closer and we were able to get to know each other even more," Armando said.

"We haven't killed each other. And after quarantine, that's pretty good," Kenny joked.

While the venue's 100-guest limit still made it difficult for the couple -- who appeared on Season 2 of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way last year and were the 90 Day Fiance franchise's first male gay couple -- to invite everyone on their guest list, Kenny's five adult children and Armando's eight-year-old daughter Hannah were able to attend.

"It means everything. I have really supportive children that have always had my back and never let me down," Kenny told People. "Having them here to witness their dad getting married after all these years is amazingly special for me."

"They love our relationship and that means the world to me."

"We are very family-oriented and our kids are a very important part of our lives, so we included them throughout the whole wedding in many aspects," Kenny added.

While 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way's second season showed Armando's conservative Mexican family struggling to accept his sexual orientation after he came out as gay, it appears at least some of his immediate family attended the wedding.

"None of my family members have ever been to a gay wedding, so it's a first for every single one of them," he told People, which did not detail which family members attended. "I'm hoping to open up their minds and what they feel in a positive way."

"Hopefully seeing the love between us will really open their minds and hearts all the way, and they can see that love is just love," Kenny added.

According to People, the venue's 100-guest limit kept the 90 Day Fiance couple from also being able to invite Armando's large extended family.

Kenny and Armando's venue choice held special meaning to them, as it is located in the middle of Mexico's wine country, which is the area where the couple would meet up and spend time together before Kenny permanently relocated to Mexico.

"We knew that was the place, and we chose the very first venue we went to," Kenny said. "It's just surrounded by mountains and vineyards, and it is gorgeous. I actually never dreamed that I'd be getting married in a place like this and in a different country than I was born in. It's really surreal for me!"

"Our theme was wine, wood, vineyards, and we like the outdoors a lot," Armando explained about the music-filled event, which also featured dancers and a mariachi band.

"We like greenery, so we totally transformed the place to make it look like a garden."

The event's Mexican-American blend extended right through to their catering menu, which featured a Mexican-American fusion.

"We did a Mexican-American blend," Armando told People about the meal, which featured sopes and corn soup as starters, chicken and beef as entrees, and a four-tier cake for dessert.

In addition, the reception also had a dessert table and a late-night burrito stand for guests.

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way's third season will air on TLC later this year.
