Russ Mayfield was a 27-year-old from Owasso, OK, and Paola Mayfield was a 26-year-old living in Bucaramanga, Colombia when she came to America on a K-1 visa.
The pair had met while Russ was in Columbia on work assignment for a petroleum company.
The pair got married in October 2013 and settled in Oklahoma together.
Russ and Paola, however, later relocated to Miami, FL, so that Paola could pursue modeling and personal training.
Paola also felt her personality and style fit in better with the culture in Miami, which has a large Latino community.
After initially appearing on Season 1 of 90 Day Fiance, Russ and Paola returned to TLC for Season 1 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? and were part of the cast for the first four seasons of Happily Ever After?.
Russ and Paola were not part of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?'s Season 5 cast when the cast was announced by TLC in May 2020.
However, the couple did appear on a May 2020 episode of TLC's 90 Day Fiance: Self-Quarantined limited series.
The episode showed Russ and Paola quarantining with their son Axel in their Miami home.
Paola said before the pandemic, Russ had been traveling to Amsterdam, Canada and more for work. She was therefore raising her son alone with the help of her mother.
Paola hoped Russ being at home would teach him how difficult it is for a mother to be alone with her baby 24/7.
Russ, a technical product lead for a service company, and Pao, now working as a personal trainer online, bickered over the division of responsibilities. Russ was working every day in the house, so it was a very new experience for him.
Paola had received her personal trainer, nutrition and Zumba certification, and said she's was enjoying her career and loved providing for her family.
The episode also showed Russ and Paola discovering Russ' grandmother had passed away. She was having health problems before and needed surgery, which was a risk considering she had low blood pressure, but Russ still called her death "a shock."
Russ cried and had a really hard time with it, saying he was the only member of his family outside of Oklahoma.
Russ hated how the virus separated him from his grandmother as well as the rest of his family.
"F-ck you. F-ck you, COVID," Russ vented.
In August 2021, Paola's manager Dominique Enchinton announced Paolo and Russ had reached a breaking point in their relationship and were taking a break from their marriage after eight years together.
"During this pandemic, it's hit everyone very hard, especially couples who have had to stay indoors with each other 24/7," Dominique told In Touch Weekly.
"Russ has lost his job during the pandemic, so Paola was the sole breadwinner for the past year. With all of that, it's definitely taken a toll on both of them being in each other's faces, so they are going to be taking a break for a little bit."
Paola and the Oklahoma native, however, "are not getting a divorce yet," according to Paola's representative, and are "still together."
"They are just taking a break and going to therapy to work through the issues," Dominique explained.
"One thing we do want to address is that Paola has been getting a lot of backlash from people on her social media, and that's something we don't appreciate. A lot of people are saying that she was in it for the green card, but Paola has had her green card for over five years already so that's not true."
Paola's representative insisted that Russ and the wrestler and nutrition coach "love each other very much and have nothing bad to say about one another."
