Chantel and Pedro's marriage is definitely on the rocks as shown on Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?.
But the couple, who met online over four years ago when Chantel was looking to learn Spanish and a friend connected her with Pedro, have had a tumultuous relationship for a while now.
They began sharing their story with TLC viewers on Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance, followed by Seasons 2 and 3 of its Happily Ever After? spinoff.
Once they met, Chantel and Pedro got to know each other better, and then Chantel advanced their romance by traveling to the Dominican Republic to meet him in person.
After a couple of more visits overseas, Pedro decided to propose marriage to Chantel, and she accepted.
Pedro then moved to the United States on his K-1 visa when he was 24 years old, but although he was engaged to Chantel, they decided to lie to her family and downplay the signifcance of their relationship.
Chantel, who was 25 at the time, told her loved ones that Pedro was just visiting on a student visa in fear what they might think.
Chantel's family was suspicious of Pedro and his intentions, but the pair were in love and decided to get married -- whether their families were going to approve or not.

Chantel's family was concerned Pedro was only interested in marrying Chantel for her money and an eventual Green Card.

Chantel's parents therefore forced Chantel and Pedro to sign a prenuptial agreement in order to protect Chantel's financial interests before their wedding.
Drama escalated when Chantel's parents subsequently hired a private investigator to research Pedro's family background and determine if he already had a wife or any children back in his native country.
They thought it was strange Pedro was constantly sending money home to his mother and sister in the Dominican Republic and wondered if he was hiding something.
Pedro hated that Chantel's family didn't trust him, and Chantel found herself in the middle of her relatives and the man she loved.
As fans may recall, Season 3 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? concluded with Pedro getting into a blowout fight with Chantel's family at the dinner table.
When a conversation at the table got heated, Pedro apparently told someone to be quiet and then River yelled at Pedro for being disrespectful.
Pedro then ran across the table and seemingly tried to hit River, which resulted in a broken lamp and food scattered about.

Chantel revealed on the season's subsequent Tell-All special she was not ready to try for a baby and expand their family due to all the chaos and family tension.
Chantel believed Pedro was out of line -- regardless of who started the fight -- and she was angry he refused to apologize to her family and take some responsibility. Pedro, however, was waiting for Chantel's brother to say sorry.
Chantel couldn't imagine welcoming kids with a man her family didn't respect and basically couldn't stand -- and vice versa.
As shown on the new season of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, Pedro sincerely seems to believe he was the victim in the situation.
Pedro and Chantel even considered moving to Savannah, GA -- which would require Chantel to transfer to another school to continue her education -- to separate Pedro and her family with greater distance. (But plans fell through).
On Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, the couple met with an immigration attorney to discuss the renewal of Pedro's U.S. green card, and Pedro mentioned potentially opening a business in his home country while continuing to live in the United States.

The immigration attorney revealed if Pedro ends up receiving his 10-year Green Card renewal, he and Chantel could get divorced and he'd still be able to stay in America.
But that means Chantel would still be financially responsible for him, regardless of whether they had signed a prenuptial agreement.
Chantel would have to prove Pedro didn't enter their marriage in good faith in order to not be on the hook for him.
"Was this your plan all along? To come here and marry me just for a green card so you can leave me, use me and start your business?" Chantel vented in a confessional.
Pedro then hopped on his flight to the Dominican Republic with a heavy and confused heart. He used the couple's savings to travel.

Chantel -- who worried her marriage was "doomed" when she dropped Pedro off at the airport -- then told the cameras, "Right now, I feel like my marriage could be lost."
Chantel worried Pedro's trip home would become a permanent one, and she was right, because Pedro was confused about what to do and whether to stay married and continue living in the United States.

After Pedro enjoyed some time with friends, living "the single life" and even receiving a lap dance from one of Nicole's friends, Chantel told Pedro that she was going to come to the Dominican Republic -- but he pushed back, saying he didn't want her to join him.
Pedro felt disrespected because Chantel always tried to control the situation. He also found himself in the middle of his wife and family, who refused to let Chantel stay with them.
In a recent episode, Pedro wasn't happy Chantel was trying to crash his vacation in the Dominican Republic, but he was also upset with his sister and mother for not welcoming Chantel into their home.
Pedro's sister Nicole thought it was "selfish" of Chantel that she wasn't going to allow Pedro to spend more time with his family since she'd soak up all his time.
Since Chantel was arriving the next day, he said he had one more night out with his friends.
Coraima, the woman whom Pedro danced with during a previous wild night out, was present at the bar, and Pedro joked, "I'm married. I have to remember that."
Coraima didn't think Pedro's relationship was going to last because she felt they had too many issues and Chantel didn't treat Pedro right.

Chantel was later shown traveling to the Dominican Republic to meet up with Pedro. She knew Pedro didn't want her to come, but she was prepared to take a stand for herself and for her marriage.
Chantel wanted to find out for herself what was going on since she and Pedro had talked about divorce, Pedro's business venture, and more.
Pedro was disappointed in Chantel for crashing his vacation, but he still loved her and greeted her with flowers and a balloon. Chantel felt a glimmer of hope things might work because Pedro was clearly putting the same effort in.
Chantel told Pedro that she wasn't going to stay at his mother's house or have anything to do with them during this trip. The couple therefore paid for a hotel room.
Pedro asked Chantel to say hello to his mother, and she agreed to a meeting out of respect for her husband. Chantel, however, demanded respect from Pedro's mother in return.
Things were very tense when Chantel met with Pedro's family because they were still looking for an apology from her stemming from the night Pedro fought her brought River at the dinner table, and things quickly got loud.

Chantel refused to apologize and Pedro's mother said she wasn't going to allow any more disrespect. Pedro's mother insisted she would have beaten up Chantel's relatives had she been present for the blow-up fight, but Chantel yelled that no one in particular is innocent or at fault.
Chantel's mother couldn't picture her son's marriage to Chantel working out.
In the latest episode, Pedro was unhappy with Chantel because he thought she had been "rude" and cold to his mother.
Pedro wanted Chantel to try to be nice and visit with his sister again. Although she was hesitant because Chantel insisted she couldn't make people like her, Chantel said she would try to be "cordial" and a good sport for her husband.

Later on, Pedro asked Chantel and his sister to meet for drinks. Pedro hoped Chantel would apologize to his sister, but he just wanted "a new beginning" more than anything.
Chantel and Nicole had never been friends, and Chantel expected the apology to come from Nicole because she had allegedly always been against Chantel.

Chantel really wanted Pedro to stand up for her, but she anticipated he would take his family's side once again.
Once Nicole arrived, the girls argued about who was to fault and which person was to blame for the explosive argument that took place at the home of Chantel's parents when Nicole had been visiting the United States.
Nicole and Chantel were in each other's faces, yelling and arguing in no time, and Chantel questioned why this gathering was even happening to begin with.
"You're the cause of all of this. You don't deserve Pedro," Nicole told Chantel.
"I'm not going to listen to you anymore. I am done. Bye," Chantel noted, before leaving the table.
Pedro wanted the ladies to understand each other's points, but it didn't seem like that was going to happen. Pedro asked Chantel to apologize for that night, but Chantel told her husband that he should've "put his sister in check" after Nicole put a finger in Chantel's face.
Chantel didn't feel like Pedro cared about her, and she wondered what she was fighting for.
"Why is he trying to get me to apologize to her for something I didn't do? How about the time his sister talked about me behind my back? And what about the time she said my hair was ugly?" Chantel vented, adding about how a lot had happened between them off-camera that fans never got to see.

"I mean, my marriage is over. It's done, and I don't want to film anymore," Chantel cried.
Chantel thought Pedro turned into "a little b-tch" when he was around his family, and she was tired of having no support.
The pair then returned to their shared hotel room, and Pedro packed his bags to leave. Chantel said that wouldn't fix anything, but Pedro said he didn't want to fix things because she refused to apologize and change her dynamic with his family.
Pedro decided to leave the hotel regardless, and both Pedro and Chantel felt uncared for by his or her spouse. Chantel said all Pedro cared about was forcing her to apologize for something she didn't do.
"He's not the husband I thought I married," Chantel noted. "I'm going to put it out of my mind as much as possible, and tomorrow, I'm going to figure out what to do."
Pedro was upset because he said he loved his wife but there seemed to be no end to the drama in sight.
Both Pedro and Chantel were angry with each other for the same exact reason, not caring for and squashing beef with their respective families.
So what happened since they went to the Dominican? Are Chantel and Pedro still together or have they split?
It appears Chantel and Pedro are still together and married.Chantel and Pedro are secretive about their relationship and largely refrain from posting photos and updates of themselves together on social media -- presumably due to their contracts with TLC -- but it seems pretty clear their relationship hasn't ended.

The apparent evidence is the fact Chantel and Pedro's time on reality TV won't end with Season 4 of the Happily Ever After? series.

The Family Chantel will star Pedro, Chantel and their lively in-laws -- Chantel's parents Karen and Thomas as well as Pedro's mother Lidia -- and their siblings.
"Viewers will follow this unique modern family as they try to move past their differences and come together as an extended family, but as Chantel's parents Karen and Thomas try to protect their brood, will they push their children too far?" TLC teased in a press release announcing the new show.
"This is an awesome moment for TLC, as we create a family show based on one of our most popular 90 Day couples, and on a whole new night," TLC executive Howard Lee added.
The network said fans can't get enough of Pedro, Chantel and their "larger-than-life families."
"For a brand known as the destination for love, relationships and family shows, The Family Chantel hits the bullseye," TLC explained.
If Chantel and Pedro weren't together anymore, it's very unlikely TLC would continue their story via The Family Chantel.
However, rumors recently swirled Chantel and Pedro may have split, and Chantel posted a May 4 comment on Instagram that prompted speculation her relationship is in trouble after all.
When a fan speculated Chantel and Pedro have split, Chantel just replied, "Seriously."
It's unclear however whether she meant "seriously" as a question out of disbelief or as a statement confirming it's true.
Chantel also posted a cryptic message last week on Instagram in which she wrote, "When the storm has passed, put your energy into rebuilding your life, don't waste time looking back."
