The Family Chantel featured Pedro Jimeno and Chantel Everett's family attending their first family counseling session and Pedro making his jaw-dropping announcement he wants to bring his mother and sister to the United States during the series' second episode on Monday night.

Pedro expected Chantel to breathe fire upon telling her that his family would be moving to America.
Pedro was then shown meeting with an immigration lawyer, Erin Elliott, to discuss how he could bring his loved ones over to the United States permanently. Pedro learned he must become a U.S. citizen before he could sponsor them.
Erin revealed Pedro had two years until he could become a U.S. citizen and then the process of bringing his mother over would probably take a year-and-a-half. There was an exception, however, if Pedro was married to and living with a U.S. citizen, which he clearly was.
Pedro needed to show evidence of his marriage and then an interview would be necessary for both Pedro and his wife together.
Pedro feared Chantel would not want to participate in the interview, but it was absolutely necessary for her to be there. Pedro knew Chantel felt Lidia and Nicole never treated her well.
Pedro also found out the entire process would cost about $7,000 to bring his mother over and an additional $2,000 to bring his sister over to the United States.
Pedro realized Chantel wasn't going to be happy because she didn't like it when he spent a lot of money on his family. Pedro felt he was in between a rock and a hard place.
Meanwhile, Chantel's brother River didn't want to show up to family counseling, but his father Thomas hoped he would come around because it would be a step in the right direction for the entire unit.

River said he didn't have a problem with Pedro but he just didn't want to be around him. Thomas said they'd have to reunite at some point, and so Thomas wanted River to "grow up" and be "a little more mature."

River complained that Pedro was the only one who needed counseling and the only person who needed to apologize. River called Pedro "a disease" to Chantel's family and said he was tired of watching his sister cry.
It had been a year or so since River last saw Pedro, and he worried about seeing Pedro again.
Pedro then went to a pizzeria alone to FaceTime with his mother and sister and break the news of what the immigration lawyer had said.
Pedro explained he needed to receive a Green Card before he could follow through with their plans, and Lidia accused Pedro of not putting enough effort in. She yelled at him to do more and work harder.
Lidia was clearly desperate to come to America, telling the cameras, "[One] who doesn't see the United States dies blind." Lidia also thought "big doors" would open for her daughter Nicole in America.
Nicole predicted Chantel's family would try to "sabotage" the process of their immigration, and Lidia called Chantel "a phony." Nicole added the happiest day of her life will be when Pedro and Chantel get a divorce.
Pedro wanted peace between his wife and family because he loved them both, but tension was still high. Pedro was also waiting for the perfect time to tell Chantel that he wanted to bring his family over to the United States.

Later on, Chantel's family -- including River -- and Pedro had their first family counseling session. Chantel was "really happy" Pedro decided to come, but he was anxious and felt a lot of "pressure."
Pedro wondered if the counseling session would be the right time to tell Chantel about his plans.
Chantel worried another physical altercation would break out because she noted there would be no coming back from that.
River thought there was a 100% chance counseling was not going to work, but the rest of Chantel's family was optimistic.
Pedro said Chantel's family disrespected his family by visiting the Dominican Republic but refusing to get out of a van when Pedro's grandmother had cooked a nice meal for everyone. Pedro asked how he could respect Chantel's family when they didn't respect his own.
River then asked Pedro why he had attacked him at the dinner table. Pedro said he had asked everyone to be quiet and then River stood up, hit the lights with his hands, called him "the worst name" and disrespected him in front of Nicole.
"That's why he deserves [me] doing this," Pedro replied.
The counselor asked Pedro to apologize to Karen and Thomas for telling them to be quiet, but he refused.
Karen said she was onboard with Chantel and Pedro's marriage but not onboard with how it came about. She felt the marriage was designed for an exchange of materials, currency or a favor.

"I believe their marriage happened under false pretenses," Karen said.
Pedro told the counselor Chantel's family had hired a private investigator to find out more about him and his family. But Pedro insisted he married Chantel because he loved her, yet she blamed him for everything.

"What did he just say?!" Karen yelled.
"What the hell?" Thomas noted.
Chantel said she was "so, so furious" Pedro "dropped that bomb in family counseling." She called it "such a betrayal." Chantel was confused and had no idea about this. It took everything in Chantel not to get up and leave the room, but she didn't want her loved ones to watch them argue during the session.
Pedro said having his loved ones around would make things better for him, and Karen alleged Pedro always had "ulterior motives for marrying Chantel."
"Now we know it's all true," Karen told the cameras.
Chantel told the counselor Pedro had never stood up for her around his family and so she didn't have a good relationship with them. Thomas explained he'd never let his family disrespect his wife.

The counselor asked Pedro and Chantel to decide whether they came first in each other's lives or their family members did.
Chantel said Lidia and Nicole coming to America was just going "to make matters worse."
Pedro was relieved he let the cat out of the bag, but he could tell Chantel was upset with him because she gave him the silent treatment after the counseling session.
"I don't want them to come here, because all they care about is making my life hell," Chantel told the cameras.

Jah didn't want Winter's family to try to control their relationship like they were allegedly trying to control Chantel's. But Winter argued her relatives had every reason to be concerned.
Winter said her romance was strong and she had nothing to worry about. She was also offended Chantel felt like she didn't know Jah at all.
Jah then revealed he had some things to tell Winter but he was afraid to scare her away. He just hoped her family wouldn't find out first.

Meanwhile, Lidia vented about how she, Pedro and Nicole were extremely close before Chantel entered the family. She alleged Chantel tried to separate Pedro from them and always wanted to be the center of attention.
The episode concluded with Chantel unleashing her feelings on Pedro about his immigration secret. Pedro didn't think it was a big deal, but Chantel said his mom and sister were perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.
Chantel insisted Lidia and Nicole used Pedro for money, and she didn't feel appreciated by her husband.
"He doesn't even care about my opinion," Chantel said while driving the couple around.
"You act like you don't trust me. All I want is someone to be honest and open with me... We used to be able to finish each other's sentences. Now, I don't even know who you are."
"So you saying I'm a stranger? Kick me out of the house. This is how you want it," Pedro said.
Pedro then stepped out of the vehicle while they were sitting in traffic.
