90 Day Fiance stars Paola Mayfield and Russ Mayfield are opening up about how it feels to be expecting a baby together so soon after dealing with the trauma of a miscarriage.

"We were very reserved at the beginning, and when we first found out, we were weary of getting our hopes up, because we didn't want a repeat to happen," Russ told Us Weekly.

The couple revealed Paola is pregnant earlier this week, and the fact they had previously suffered a miscarriage was disclosed on Season 3 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?.

"[We're] just trying to protect ourselves. Like, you don't want to get your hopes up because anything could happen, but it's like, it's hard not to feel excited. But every morning I try to just check on the baby's heart rate and I try to find it, and I'm like, 'Okay, everything is fine,'' Paola explained.

"You always feel like something can happen. Even if you don't want to think about it, but it's like, you're more concerned."

Russ from Oklahoma met Paola, a model and former fashion designer, in her home country of Colombia while he was on a work assignment in the petroleum industry. They got married in October 2013 and initially starred on Season 1 of 90 Day Fiance.

After losing a baby, Russ and Paola apparently took a break from trying to conceive, so they were totally caught off-guard when they found out she was expecting again.

When recalling how she informed Russ he's going to be a dad, Paola told Us, "I was going to a training for Zumba actually and I was like, 'Okay, I'm gonna do it.' I don't know. That was crazy to do it before I was leaving, and I just look at my husband and I'm like, 'I'm pregnant.'"

She continued, "But [I was] in shock. I didn't have any emotions. I was just like -- shocked. And he looked at me like...'Uh... yeah...' We both were really shocked."

Russ is now apparently at his wife's beck and call, treating her to chocolate covered strawberries, citrus and salt to satisfy her cravings.

"It's bringing more patience with me in our relationship," Russ noted.

"There are days like, I feel like I'm angry for no reason and I get so sensitive that I get upset with him and I cry for no reason and then I start crying like, 'I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that,'" Paola admitted.

"Like, I feel terrible and he's like, 'Okay, I understand.' He's been so calm, and I'm so glad that I'm doing this with him, because I don't know if anyone else would be able to handle me, but he's been amazing with supporting me."

Although Russ is acting like Prince Charming, the pair do still get into fights every now and then, and they tend to be worse when they're on-camera.

But with a little girl or boy on the way, the couple is going to "focus on what's important," according to the magazine.

The parents-to-be will find out the baby's gender at an upcoming gender reveal party. Paola said she's love to have a girl, while Russ would like a boy.

"I went to the Maxim party and I [had]... a teeny tiny belly and everybody was like, 'Are you pregnant?' And I was like, 'No, that's a burrito. I just ate a burrito.' Yeah, but finally I feel great that I can actually like let my belly go and not feel like I'm sucking in," Paola said.

"We've been waiting to announce this for forever, or it seems like forever," Russ added. "It hasn't been forever, but even those little small changes -- I'm like, 'You can't expose any of that. It's a secret.' So now she can finally be herself again."

It's unclear when exactly Paola discovered she's pregnant again, but on July 22, she captioned a photo of herself on Instagram saying she was "glowing."

Paola previously miscarried because her O-negative and Rh-negative blood type was incompatible with the Rh-positive fetus, Us reported.

However, proper care and treatment can prevent the loss of life from happening again.

Part 2 of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?'s third-season Tell All special will air on Sunday, July 29 at 8PM ET/PT on TLC.
