The Paranormal Research Society is led by director Ryan Buell, who become one of the first college students to ever enroll in a university-sanctioned paranormal research group when he founded the group in 2001.
Buell and the PRS try to find the truth behind real-life paranormal mysteries by using a variety of old-fashioned and cutting-edge techniques that include Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings, interviews with clients, video documentation, and the help of outside experts such as psychics and demonologists.
A&E's broadcasts of new Paranormal State episodes averaged 1.4 million total viewers last year -- a figure that was 27% above the 2007 time period average, according to the network.
In addition to Paranormal State, A&E also announced that it has ordered Paranormal Cops, a reality series that will follow a group of Chicago-area police officers who apply their forensic and investigative knowledge to paranormal cases.
Paranormal State is produced by Four Seasons Productions International and Go Go Luckey Productions for A&E Networks, with Gary Auerbach, Julie Auerbach and Betsy Schechter serving as executive producers. Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain Bryant serve as the show's A&E executive producers.
