Family Jewels is A&E's second highest rated series ever in the Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 demographics, according to Variety, behind only Dog the Bounty Hunter. Family Jewels' second season, which premiered in late March, also outperformed its first among Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 as well as total viewers, which reportedly led A&E to increase its third-season order from 20 to 24 half-hour episodes.
"[Simmons and his household] are highly functional, intelligent and witty," Rob Sharenow, senior vice president of unscripted and alternative programming for A&E and a co-executive producer of Family Jewels, told Variety. "They're in constant motion, and Gene is always working on dozens of projects. It's more like a scripted series than a reality show."
While Simmons may be the star of Family Jewels, the show's cast also includes Shannon Tweed, a former Playboy Playmate of the Year who has been happily UNmarried to the former KISS frontman for 24 years, as well as their two teenage children Nick and Sophie.
Family Jewels' second season including Simmons and Tweed receiving dual facelifts; as well as Nick preparing to leave for college; Sophie turning into "a young lady;" Tweed's determination to have another baby; as well as family outings to New York, Las Vegas, London, Paris and the tropical paradise of Turks & Caicos.
