Some of the song's lyrics include: "Baby, I'm preying on you tonight / Hunt you down eat you alive / Just like animals," in addition to, "Maybe you think that you can hide / I can smell your scent from miles / Just like animals."
The graphic Maroon 5 video also features Levine singing phrases such as "we get along when I'm inside you" and "you can't stay away from me."
In the video, Levine works in a butcher shop and takes notice of Prinsloo when she comes in to buy meat. He then begins to obsess about her -- following her on the street, standing outside her place in the pouring rain and secretly taking photographs of her. Levine, who sports thick-rimmed glasses in the video, later gets rejected by Prinsloo at a club only to engage in bloody sex moments later.
Prinsloo had shared a photo on Instagram September 2 from the set in which she and Levine were both drenched in blood.
Samuel Bayer, who was behind Nightmare on Elm Street, directed "Animals." Bayer had previously worked with Maroon 5 on their 2012 hit "Payphone."
Levine and Prinsloo began dating in May 2012 and reunited after a brief split in early 2013. Once they got back together, Levine apparently didn't hesitate to take their relationship to the next level and popped the question in July 2013.
Levine and the Victoria's Secret model reportedly began dating after the singer and Anne Vyalitsyna, who's also a model, called it quits.
The Maroon 5 frontman currently serves as a coach on The Voice's seventh season with Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton.
