The fourth season of Fox's American Idol began in earnest this week, with Monday and Tuesday's first performance shows culminating in last night's Wednesday results show that eliminated of the four semifinalists (two male, two female) who received the least number of votes from home viewers of the competition.

On the women's side, Melinda Lira and Sarah Mather found themselves eliminated as a result of the viewer voting from Tuesday night's broadcast of the twelve female semifinalists' performances. Lira, a 19-year-old from Hanford, CA , had sung "Power of Love," while Mather, a 22-year-old Quebec native who moved to North Carolina when she was 10, had sung "Get Ready."
Next week, the ten remaining male finalists (Bo Bice, David Brown, Anthony Fedorov, Constantine Maroulis, Joseph Murena, Anwar Robinson, Scott Savol, Nikko Smith, Travis Tucker, Mario Vazquez) will take the stage once again, singing live for America on Monday, February 28 (8-9PM ET/PT).
Then it's once again ladies' night on FOX, as the ten remaining female finalists (Amanda Avila, Celena Rae, Lindsey Cardinale, Janay Castine, Mikalah Gordon, Aloha Mischeaux, Jessica Sierra, Vonzell Solomon, Nadia Turner, Carrie Underwood) perform live in hopes of winning America's vote on Tuesday, March 1 (8-9PM ET/PT).
After that, another two males and two females will be eliminated on the live results show Wednesday, March 2 (9-10PM ET/PT) on FOX.
