American Idol alum Kellie Pickler has lost her husband of 11 years, Kyle Jacobs, to apparent suicide.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police, Kyle was found dead in his Nashville home at age 49 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Variety reported.

Nashville's Department of Emergency Communications reportedly received a 911 call at 1:21PM on Friday, February 17 from a home on Sneed Road in Nashville.

Police officers and the Nashville Fire Department responded to the call and "located resident Kyle Jacobs, 49, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom/office. His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide," the MNPD told Variety in a statement.

"Mr. Jacobs' wife, Kellie Pickler, reported that she awoke a short time earlier, did not see her husband, and began looking for him. After she and her personal assistant were unable to open the door to the upstairs bedroom/office, the assistant telephoned 911."

Last week, TMZ reported that an unidentified man committed suicide at Kellie's home. A representative for The Nashville Police Department said they received a call in the afternoon about a man who had shot himself on the 36-year-old country singer's property.

Kellie, who competed on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006 and finished in sixth place, married Kyle in January 2011. The pair had ditched their plans for a traditional wedding and decided to elope in Antigua instead.

Kellie and Kyle dated for two-and-a-half years before Kyle proposed marriage. They were engaged for less than a year when they opted to tie the knot.

The couple went on to star on their own reality show, I Love Kellie Pickler, which debuted on CMT in 2015.

While Kellie and Kyle never welcomed children, they adored their two dogs and being an aunt and uncle.

"I love being Aunt Kellie and that is perfect for me," Kellie told Us Weekly in August 2020, adding how she'd need "another drink" to even consider having a baby.

Back in January 2012, the "The Letter (to daddy)" singer shared how she felt "blessed" to have a partner like Kyle.

"He is the best husband I ever had -- come to think of it, he's the only husband I've ever had!" Kellie joked with Parade at the time.

"But on a serious note, he's the prize. I don't know why he picked me, but I'm glad he did."

Kyle worked as a songwriter and had collaborated with Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker and other country musicians. He memorably co-wrote "More Than a Memory" and "Still" by Garth Brooks.
