The people have spoken, and what they said was no real surprise.

At last night's 33rd annual People's Choice Awards on CBS, Fox's American Idol was voted the favorite competition/reality show for the second year in a row, besting ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and NBC's Deal or No Deal. The award was accepted by Idol judge Randy Jackson.
While original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson won big at last year's award show when she was named favorite female singer, that honor was bestowed upon Idol 4 champ Carrie Underwood during last night's broadcast. She beat-out Faith Hill and Shakira for the award. Underwood's "Before He Cheats" was also voted favorite country song, getting the nod ahead of "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flats and "When the Stars Go Blue" by Tim McGraw.
Potential nominees for the 33rd annual People's Choice Awards, which were held in Shrine Auditorium and hosted by Queen Latifah, were compiled using consumer research resources provided by Knowledge Networks, and included a representative panel to identify a pop-culture-involved sample of men and women ages 18-49.
For each category, the representatives were provided a set of candidates determined by national ratings averages, box-office grosses and album sales. The representatives then chose their favorites in television, movies and music. Their top three selections in each category became the final nominees, which were then voted on by the public via the Internet.
