"[Production closed] due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics and a lack of sustainable financial resources," producer Todd Ellis said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Idol: The Musical first debuted in Syracuse, NY earlier this year with a 10-person cast before it was scheduled to begin previews at Off-Broadway's 45th Street Theatre on July 5. However by the end of July the cast was replaced "without explanation," according to Reuters.
After less than two weeks of more preview performances earlier this month with the new cast, the curtain officially dropped for the final time on Idol: The Musical.
