The media blitz is underway for the first American Idol film, which opens Friday, June 20, and some surprising quotes have popped up along the way. TV Guide reports that Kelly Clarkson, the co-star of From Justin to Kelly (or J2K), has admitted that only fans of the show -- and of herself and co-star (and fellow finalist) Justin Guarini -- will enjoy the movie.

Kelly then continues, "This movie shouldn't be screened by the critics because it's not for them -- it's for the fans." While we have no doubt that the absence of the inevitable scathing reviews would please the movie's stars, and not having to squander 90 minutes might even please the critics, we doubt that Kelly will get her wish.
Meanwhile, in USA Today, Kelly describes the film as "lighthearted" and says that "[i]t's supposed to be family fun." Justin, however, still seems to hold out hope that the movie will not be their own personal Magical Mystery Tour, stating "I'm really happy with this film, and I'm proud of it as a first film." We hope he still feels that way on Monday morning.
The J2K "flop watch" is at one day and counting. We have a prediction: at least one review of From Justin to Kelly will lead with an Elvis song title ... "Return to Sender."
