Adanna Duru, an 18-year-old student from Diamond Bar, CA, and Maddie Walker, a 16-year-old student from Ankeny, IA, were sent home based on the nationwide vote following last week's performance show.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced the Top 9 artists one at a time based on the home-viewers vote and then each singer was asked to perform a song from the 80's. Everyone's name was called except for Adanna and Maddie, which ultimately revealed they had been cut from the competition and wouldn't sing again on American Idol.

Last week, Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. decided to use their one "Save" of the season on Qaasim Middleton, an 18-year-old student from Brooklyn, NY, so two people had to go home this week. The "Save" is also therefore no longer in play.

Votes had been cast last week after Maddie performed "She's Country" by Jason Aldean. Jennifer noted she can really sing and is a great combination of sassy and sweet. Adanna had performed "Runaway Baby" by Bruno Mars. She improved immensely, especially in regards to singing in tune and being in control of her stage presence.

Adanna had been one of the judges' two "Wild Card" picks.

The contestants still in the running to be named the next "American Idol" are Clark Beckham, Jax, Qaasim, Tyanna Jones, Joey Cook, Rayvon Owen, Daniel Seavey, Quentin Alexander, and Nick Fradiani.
