The BBC and Webber are in early development talks for the show that will place the winner in the role made famous on the big screen in 1965 by Julie Andrews.
Webber reportedly decided to go with an unknown in the lead after actress Scarlett Johansson turned down the role, the BBC reported Monday.
Webber is aiming for a late 2006 opening for his show.
