In a feline cross between "The Apprentice" and "The Real World," 10 kitties will face-off in a 10-week elimination from a swanky New York apartment.
Friday, Meow Mix is launching a 3-minute segment on Animal Planet with comedian Tom Shillue as host that is sure to get the attention of pet lovers. "Cat-testants" chosen from shelters in 10 cities will compete in contest such as purring, catching toy mice and falling asleep.
Every Friday, however, one cat will be voted out of the Madison Avenue digs, essentially a loser, but winning a new, loving home and a year's supply of Meow Mix, the New York Daily News reported.
By Aug. 18, only the hardiest feline will remain inside the luxury apartment. That top cat will ascend to the vice presidency of research and development to personally taste and test the product.
New Yorkers can visit the pet penthouse at 425 Madison Avenue. From other parts of the country, viewers can keep tabs on the contestants via the Web site MeowMixHouse.com. Each kitty has posted his own photo, bio and blog.
