In a side story to the death of Anna Nicole Smith, a Bahamian immigration official said he won't resign over photographs of him and Smith in bed.
Leaders of the opposition Bahamian Democratic Movement called for Gibson's resignation, CNN said Tuesday. But in a televised statement, Gibson refused to resign, saying Smith was a friend of his wife and family, and that the "innocent photographs" were taken by Smith's companion, Howard K. Stern.
Saying he did nothing improper, Gibson added, "Sometimes it's normal to accelerate residency cases, but the relationship did not influence it."
Smith died Feb. 8 in a Hollywood, Fla., hospital where she was taken after being found unresponsive in a casino hotel room. A cause of death has not been determined.
