The estranged father of Anna Nicole Smith said in an interview in New York that, even though it's been years since he's seen Smith, her death hit him hard.
"It's hard you know, to lose ... a daughter, no matter if you haven't been around them in a while," Donald Hogan told "Inside Edition."
Hogan said he believes Larry Birkhead is the father of his 5-month-old granddaughter, Dannielynn.
Howard K. Stern, Smith's companion, is listed on the birth certificate as the father. Birkhead claims he's the father and has filed a paternity suit.
Hogan, who left his daughter when she was 2, said the baby "should be with family right now until he (Stern) is determined the father, because if he is not the father, he has got no business with my grandbaby."
Hogan, a retired carpenter living in the Houston area, said he wants answers about Smith's death, especially so soon after her son Daniel, who died suddenly in September.
"I stayed out of everything with Daniel ... I thought it was just an accident," Hogan said. "I'm not going to sit around this time. I'm going to get some answers."
