"Illegal Aliens," Anna Nicole Smith's final film, will be distributed in May, Edgewood Productions, Rutland Vt., and MTI Home Videos, Miami, announced.
After canceling several screenings, the companies said they hoped the direct-to-DVD release would be in May, a date they previously agreed to before Smith's death Feb. 8, a representative for MTI told E! News.
Production shut down in September after the death of Smith's son, 20-year-old Daniel Smith, who is listed along with his mother as an associate producer on the film -- which originally had been expected to hit shelves in April.
"At first look, 'Illegal Aliens' appears to be just another low-budget sci-fi comedy poking fun at Hollywood's big-budget flicks," executive producer John James said Tuesday. "Now with the passing of its star you'll find it to be replete with metaphors of her life."
The film features Smith as an alien taking the shape of a human bombshell who teams with two others to take on an intergalactic evil-doer, played by Joanie Laurer, the former wrestler known as Chyna.
