Arie Luyendyk Jr. competed on The Bachelorette for a reason other than finding love with Emily Maynard, according to his former girlfriend.

"Arie has dated hundreds of women and travels all over the world. Clearly, he doesn't need help finding a date or someone to fall in love with."
Luyendyk Jr., who is one of Maynard's final two bachelors on the currently-airing ABC dating series, allegedly began struggling with his racing career in recent years and therefore searched for a way to return to the limelight.
"The whole idea of Arie being on The Bachelorette is a joke. He hasn't raced much since 2008, and I know with certainty that his only motive for going on the show was for the fame and attention," Harshman explained.
Harshman -- who dated Luyendyk Jr. starting in late 2009 and lived with him for awhile before the couple separated in June 2011 and then officially called it quits that December -- had two children from a previous relationship whom the race car driver helped take care of, however, Luyendyk Jr. apparently wasn't the ideal father figure he's portrayed himself to be on The Bachelorette.
"He wasn't the best father figure to my children," Harshman told Star, which, if accurate, would be a huge red flag for Maynard considering her main goal was to find a great dad for her six-year-old daughter Ricki.
"Let's just say that Arie has some growing up to do himself."
According to reports citing sources close to both Harshman and Luyendyk Jr., The Bachelorette cameras filmed Luyendyk Jr. telling Maynard how he and Harshman had suffered a miscarriage -- a discussion that, although it was not edited into any of the season's episodes, left Harshman offended and furious.
"If that happened, I'm mortified that Arie would share such painfully intimate details of our relationship while the cameras were rolling," she explained, confirming the miscarriage.
"What happened is one of the hardest things a woman can go through. I've moved on, but Arie using that to try and elicit sympathy from Emily is horrible."
