Avery Mills was a former Christian and all-American girl -- a chearleader and gymnast -- from Columbus, OH when she converted to Islam.

Avery had never dated a Muslim man, but the 19-year-old joined a Muslim dating app and quickly met Omar Albakour, a 24-year-old with "a beautiful heart."

Omar's profile said he was from America, but Avery soon found out he was actually from Syria. After just a month of talking, Omar asked Avery to marry him, and she received her engagement ring in the mail.

As Syria is in the middle of a civil war, Omar and Avery made plans to travel to Lebanon and marry there. And since she was unable to convince her daughter to change her mind, Avery's mother Teri -- who feared Omar was just using her daughter to be able to come to the United States -- insisted on accompanying Avery on the trip and seeing Avery get married.

Despite some initial scheduling issues, Avery and Omar managed to get married on Teri's final day in Lebanon. After she left, the newlyweds were able to enjoy only a few additional days on their own before Avery also had to leave Lebanon and return home.

Upon returning to America, Avery visited an immigration lawyer to begin the spousal visa process that she hoped would allow Omar to join her in America despite the U.S. government's current travel ban from Syria.

However, during the visit, Avery learned Omar's visa application would actually be harmed if she proceeded with her plan to move to Syria until Omar's visa was approved as that would weaken the couple's request for a travel-ban waiver due to hardship.

Much to her mother's happiness, Avery then decided to scrap her plan to move to the dangerous country but still decided to start the visa process immediately even though chances of it working were slim.

"At this point, I'm married to someone -- I don't know if I'll ever actually be with him. We have a lot of plans and we were really excited and thought everything was finally pulling into place," Avery cried in a confessional.

"This is not the news I expected to hear."

90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days' third season ended with Avery and Omar discussing the possibility of both moving to somewhere like Dubai.

"If we make that decision to move out of the country, we make that decision for good," Avery told her husband. "We're just giving up America altogether."

After filming ended, Avery and Omar opened an online store selling Middle Eastern goods and reunited in Lebanon again, but Avery was still living in America.

In March 2020, TLC released three short-form Season 4 episodes of 90 Day Fiance: What Now?, the 90 Day Fiance spinoff available on the network's TLC GO streaming service, that showed Avery traveling back to Lebanon and reuniting with Omar and visiting with his family.

During the 90 Day Fiance: What Now? episodes, Avery and Omar met with his family and explained they initially planned to focus on getting Omar a visa that would allow him to come to America, but Avery was open to moving to Dubai or another Middle Eastern country if that proved impossible.

In April 2020, Avery took to Instagram and denied she and Omar had broken up.

"I'm not sure why there is an article saying Omar and I aren't together, but we are very much Happily married and we have never split up," Omar captioned a selfie of the couple.

"So for the people that rushed to my page to see if the tabloids were true they aren't. Still my best friend."

Avery also added multiple heart emojis to her Instagram post.

In late 2020, Avery made several social-media postings that indicated she was living in Dubai with Omar.

However in March 2021, Avery announced that Omar's spousal visa had been approved by the U.S. government and they would be moving to America soon. 

And the couple apparently wasted no time coming to the United States after Omar's visa was approved, as Avery was sharing photos of the couple's new apartment in America on social media by the end of the month.
