The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has announced plans for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a new children's reality competition series that will transform a group of Harry Potter-style boarding school children from "muggles" (a person without magical abilities) into wizards.

In each episode, the fourteen children featured on the series will learn card tricks, Latin spells and illusions which they will then perform for a group of "magic mentors," who will judge the competition's performances to decide who must leave the Hogwarts-style school and return to living amongst the muggles. BBC executive Anne Gilchrist thinks the show will "inspire and amaze."
Barney Harwood, who currently hosts the BBC's Totally Doctor Who, will also serve as host for The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
A second yet-to-be-named morning series that will allow The Sorcerer's Apprentice magic mentors to share their learn tricks with childen watching at home will also accompany the series.
Both series are scheduled to air later this year.
