The two remaining Beauty and the Geek fourth-season couples took a The Bachelor-esque trip to their partner's hometown during last night's penultimate broadcast of The CW reality series before having an American Idol-like twist thrown at them and learning that home viewer votes would determine the show's $250,000 winner.

Beauty and the Geek 4's tenth and penultimate broadcast began with the two remaining teams -- David, a 28-year-old fire department administrator from Somerville, MA, and  Jasmine, a 22-year-old nanny from Columbus, OH, as well as Sam, a 26-year-old party promoter from Davis, CA who is serving as the hunky guy, and Nicole, a 25-year-old student from San Francisco, CA --  heading into the elimination room for a final time.

"This experiment will not end in the elimination room," host Mike Richards informed the two remaining teams.

Rewind three days prior to the final elimination room, with The CW airing a cleverly placed clip of Nicole commenting how she's "come to expect the unexpected" during the show's fourth season.  David and Jasmine and Sam and Nicole then met Mike, who informed them that before they head into the elimination room one last time, they'll be visiting their partner's hometown or current place of residence.

The next day -- or two days before the final elimination room if you're still keeping track -- David took Jasmine to Boston, where he's lived for the last six years.  David said he received a "welcoming" reaction from his friends, but it was also a "bit of a surprise" for them to see the makeover he received.  Upon meeting David's friends, Jasmine was surprised to learn her partner is a "social" geek.

David, Jasmine and his friends then embarked to the Public Gardens for some LARPing (live-action role playing).  David and Jasmine were the heroes and defeated the evil baron before finding the magic cure they were in search of.  David thought Jasmine did "very well" considering it was her first time LARPing.

That same day, Nicole visited Sam's hometown of Davis, CA.  Of course, the first place Sam took Nicole was to the gym, where the two participated in a light workout.

"I'm ready to go clubbing," said Nicole to Sam as they left the gym.

"You read my mind," he answered.

However instead of going clubbing, Sam and Nicole went to a bar and met Sam's brother Joe, who was also known as "Tequila Joe."  Sam's friends came out and everybody enjoyed a tequila tasting at the bar, which is where Sam's parents first met.  Sam and one of his friends then mimicked slow-motion moves from the Matrix.  Nicole thought the visit to Sam's hometown provided "a lot of perspective" on her partner, aka "Metro Man."

The next day -- or one day prior to the final elimination room -- The CW was back in Boston, where Nicole studies musicology at Tufts University.  Nicole described music as "very personal" to her -- especially singing -- and she belted out an opera tune for Sam.  He thought the performance was "awesome" and commented Nicole has a "very beautiful voice," even though he couldn't understand what she was saying.

Sam and Nicole then met her two roommates and her best friend, and after some brief conversation, Sam thought they "reconfirmed" Nicole's "trouble with boys."  However since the competition began, Sam also thought Nicole's been "making a lot of progress in that area."  Sam had a "wonderful time" and was glad to see Nicole has a "happy-go-lucky" side.

That same day David traveled to Jasmine's hometown of Columbus, OH, where he met her mom and younger sister.  Jasmine's mom made a photo collage, which chronicled her daughter's life from when she was a toddler to her 21st-birthday.  David said it helped him get a better grasp on where Jasmine came from.  David also saw how close Jasmine was to her younger sister.

The two then traveled to visit two of the children Jasmine babysits for.  They all bounced on a trampoline, and David landed on his head while trying to perform a back flip.  After David tried to explain LARPing to the two young children, Jasmine realized her Beauty and the Geek partner is really a "kid at heart."  David said the hometown visit made him realize he and Jasmine are no longer strangers, but friends.

The two remaining teams then traveled back to the Los Angeles mansion they called home during Beauty and the Geek's filming, and the day of the final elimination room finally arrived again.  Everybody packed their bags, unsure of how the elimination room was going to play out.

"If they base it on criteria of who has changed the most, I think that Jasmine and I have an excellent chance of winning," commented David following a video montage of his journey with Jasmine.

"We're here because of Sam's strength in the challenges... and we're here because both he and I do well in eliminations," commented Nicole following a video montage of their journey together, aware Sam has won five challenges and the team is 2 for 2 in the elimination room.  "I hope [the final elimination room is] more of a quizzing-type thing, because that's how I think we've got an edge over Dave and Jasmine."

Prior to the final elimination room, the two teams sat down and enjoyed dinner together one last time.  David then took Jasmine up to the mansion's roof, where he gave her a Chinese charm bracelet as a token of appreciation for how much she's helped him.  She called it her "lucky charm."

The two remaining teams then entered the elimination room for the final time and Mike revealed the nature of the twist.

"This experiment will not end in the elimination room," said Mike.  "This year, the winning team will be determined by a group of people you don't even know... For the first time in the history of Beauty and the Geek, we're putting the decision in the hands of America."

Mike explained that each of the teams would be able to address home viewers one final time.  Home viewers would then be able to vote via text messaging for either David and Jasmine or Sam and Nicole until Friday, November 30 at 12PM ET, with the team that receives the most votes claiming the show's $250,000 grand prize.

The two teams were then given a few minutes to prepare their statements to viewers.  Jasmine suggested a "speak from the heart" approach since David was being extremely uptight about preparing an actual speech.  Geeks apparently think alike as Nicole wanted to take the same analytical approach, complete with various talking points.  However Sam was afraid Nicole would overanalyze it and told her to just have fun.

Each of the teams then delivered their final statements, with Nicole and Sam going first.

"I think it's pretty obvious when Sam and I arrived here we were one of the couples that was the most different from each other," said Nicole.  "But we've grown a lot together.  I wanted to learn to relate to more people.  Sam taught me to take life a little more lightly at time, that's something I'll take with me for the rest of my life."

"I think Nicole taught me a lot too," continued Sam.  "When I came here, I was a crazy guy who couldn't even stand still.  Nicole taught me a lot by example.  She studied hard, and I wanted to study hard.  I feel like I can learn so much more now that we are leaving.  I hope everyone can see all the changes that I feel."

David and Jasmine then delivered their statement.

"When Jasmine and I first met as partners, I was thoughtless, tactless and careless..." said David, who looked a little scared.

"When Dave told me he didn't want to be my partner, I think we had a classic case of judging a book by its cover," said Jasmine.  "You don't have to judge a book by its cover, and you shouldn't.  We just grew so far from that because we saw how we could bring out each other's strong points.  Even if we don't notice as much because we're living it -- America you guys see it."

"It's all about the distance that has been traveled, and we've come along way," concluded David.

Beauty and the Geek's fourth-season finale broadcast will air Tuesday, December 4 at 8PM ET/PT on The CW, with all of the teams reuniting for the first time since filming concluded.
