Ben Higgins can relate to being in love with two women at once, but he apparently cannot relate -- nor does he agree with -- the way Arie Luyendyk Jr. handled his breakup with Becca Kufrin.

Ben, who starred on The Bachelor's 20th season, told Entertainment Tonight that Arie should not have dumped Becca on-camera.

When Ben was watching the finale on Monday night, he couldn't help but think to himself, "Why does this have to happen on-camera? Why can't this just be done in a private moment away from everybody?"

The Bachelor finale featured Arie proposing to Becca at the final Rose Ceremony in Peru and then dumping her weeks later during what was supposed to be a romantic "happy couple visit" in Los Angeles.

The breakup was excruciating, as fans watched a long unedited and uncut scene of Becca sobbing into her hands and hyperventilating as Arie kept repeating that he was still in love with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham, and couldn't stop thinking about her.

But Ben, being the nice guy he is, always tries to give people the benefit of the doubt.

"I also get the idea that [Arie is] committed to allowing viewers into his love story, and some of his love story involves this," Ben told ET of the heart-wrenching split.

"So I understand what his thought process was, like, 'This might be the best option for now so I don't have to explain this in an interview, maybe I can just do it on-camera.' I understand that. But I felt like I was watching something I did not need to be a part of."

Ben said it was pretty clear Becca and the 36-year-old pro racing driver were on a totally different page when they met in Los Angeles that day.

"Becca was shocked, and I think in his mind he had prepared her for this. He was walking in saying, 'Okay, this is going to make a lot of sense to her. She knows how I'm feeling, she's probably expecting it,'" Ben reasoned.

"And, instead, when we watched it, it was like she had no clue this was coming," he shared.

Once Becca realized the magnitude of the situation, she couldn't stop bawling her eyes out, and she repeatedly asked Arie to leave her alone. However, Arie stayed in the house and attempted to push for more conversation to obtain closure.

"All I could do watching [the breakup] was think, 'Just leave, Arie! Just go.' And he didn't leave. He wouldn't leave. And I think that's where I was feeling very awkward," Ben confessed.

"I'm sure that situation for him was difficult, and I'm sure for her it was difficult, but I don't know what else he was trying to get out of it. It was like he needed her to reassure him that everything was going to be okay, and it's just not going to happen right now because it was obviously such a shocking breakup for her."

At the end of the day, Ben said Bachelor Nation witnessed a breakup that will "definitely affect Becca probably for a long time, and Arie also."

Arie made it known on Monday night's show that he wanted to reconcile with Lauren and give their romance another shot. Viewers will find out what happens on the March 6 broadcast of After the Final Rose from 8-10PM ET/PT.
