Big Brother unveiled the identities of the four returning houseguests, revealed how they will be participating in the show, and eliminated a first-time houseguest during Thursday night's premiere of the CBS reality show's fourteenth season.

After they moved into the house and introduced themselves -- and lied about their backgrounds, in some cases -- to each other, Big Brother host Julie Chen revealed there would be four returning houseguests joining the first-time houseguests as well as what their role was going to be throughout the season.
Julie told the 12 newbies the returning houseguests -- which she called "four of the most successful Big Brother players of all-time" -- would not be competing against them, but instead, would be playing their "own game" and serve as the newbies' coaches all summer long in the hopes of developing a social, strategic and athletic champion.
Julie explained the coaches would each have three first-time houseguests to be on their team and then must work to guide them to victory and the $500,000 grand prize. If a coach's first-time houseguest ended up winning Big Brother's fourteenth season, that coach would receive a separate prize of $100,000.
The four returning houseguests then entered the house one by one, revealing themselves to the first-time houseguests. They were Britney Haynes, Dan Gheesling, "Boogie" Mike Malin, and Janelle Pierzina.
Britney finished fourth on Big Brother's twelfth season in 2010 while Dan won the show's tenth season in 2008. Janelle placed third on Big Brother's sixth season in 2005 and also finished third on Big Brother: All-Stars in 2006. Mike originally competed on the second season of Big Brother in 2001 and won Big Brother: All-Stars in 2006.
Once Britney, Dan, Boogie, and Janelle joined the new houseguests and they were all given some time to chat, Julie told everyone there would only be 11 keys to hand out, meaning one of the 12 new houseguests who received invitations to enter the house would be going home that very night.
Afterward, everyone participated in a draft in which each returning houseguest randomly selected the three first-time houseguests for whom they'd like to serve as coaches. Britney picked Shane, a 26-year-old house flipper from Bennington, VT; Willie, a 34-year-old tankerman from Vinton, LA who currently resides in Dayton, TX and is the brother of Survivor villian Russell Hantz; and JoJo, a 26-year-old bartender from Staten Island, NY.
Boogie selected Frank, an unemployed 28-year-old from Marion, AK who currently resides in Naples, FL; Ian, a 21-year-old engineering student from Pittsburgh, PA who currently resides in New Orleans, LA; and Jenn, a 37-year-old musician from Brooklyn, NY.
Janelle opted for teammates Joe, a 41-year-old chef from Lexington, KY who is originally from Schererville, ID; Ashley, a 26-year-old mobile spray tanning company owner from Pittsburgh, PA who currently resides in West Hollywood, CA; and Wil, a 24-year-old marketing consultant from Louisville, KY.
Due to the draft, Dan ended up with Kara, a 29-year-old model from Orlando, FL who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA; Danielle, a 23-year-old nurse from Grant, AL who currently resides in Tuscaloosa, AL; and Jodi, a 42-year-old restaurant server from Englewood, CO who currently resides in Calipatria, CA.
Later on, the 12 first-time houseguests competed in the season's initial Head of Household competition. Although the coaches didn't compete themselves, their already-divided teams played against each other.
RELATED LINK: 'BIG BROTHER' SHOWMANCES NOWThe coach of the first-time houseguests on the winning team would be able to decide which of his or her players would be the HoH, whereas the coach of the losing team would be forced to evict one of his or her own team members almost immediately.
The challenge required each of the four teams to make their way, one team member at a time, across rotating mattresses to a bin on the opposite side. Once there, a teammate had to bring back one stuffed teddy bear. However, if a houseguest fell off a mattress at any point in the game, that person would have to return to the end they last left and try again. At any point in the game, a coach could make a substitution.
Britney's team happened to be the first team to get all three of their bears onto their bedroom shelf and then turn off their nightlight, winning the challenge. Britney therefore picked Willie to be the season's first HoH. Unfortunately for Dan, his team came in last place. So Dan had to decide whether to evict Danielle, Jodi, or Kara -- sending her out of the house and out of the game for good.
Following some discussion amongst his team, Dan announced in front of all the returning and first-time houseguests that he had selected Jodi for eviction much to her surprise and disappointment.
"You guys all busted your ass, and as a coach, that's all you can ask for. I know every one of you did your best. But unfortunately, Jodi, I'm sorry. I have to evict you," Dan explained.
"Well thanks guys. It was fun," Jodi said.
Jodi told Dan it was nice to meet him and then told her female teammates to "kick some butt."
Big Brother's next episode will air Sunday, July 15 at 8PM ET/PT on CBS.
