Big Brother's fourteenth season "reset the game" and allowed the four prior-season houseguests who had been "coaching" the season's 12 first-time houseguests to join the competition as regular contestants during Thursday night's live broadcast.

Big Brother host Julie Chen announced the twist to the four "coaches" -- Dan Gheesling, Britney Haynes, "Boogie" Mike Malin and Janelle Pierzina -- and eight remaining newbie players after she revealed the results of America's Vote, which had asked home viewers to vote on whether they wanted to give the "coaches" the chance to compete as regular players.

The twist completely invalidated the Head of Household reign of Shane Meaney, who had spent the last week serving as the season's third HoH, and became final after the "coaches" voted and opted to accept the offer to compete as regular players.

"If you chose to give up coaching, you would reset the game right here, right now.  Meaning, all of you would be competing as individuals, there would be no eviction tonight, and everyone would battle it out tonight for the title of Head of Household," Julie explained before the four returning Big Brother houseguests were individually called into the Diary Room to cast their votes.

"If just one of you [votes to 'reset'], the game is reset and all four coaches will enter the game as players."

Britney, Dan and Janelle all voted to join the game and "reset" it while Boogie opted to pass on the opportunity.

Shane, a 26-year-old house flipper from Bennington, VT, had originally nominated Joe Arvin and Ashley Iocco for eviction.

However, after winning the subsequent Power of Veto competition, Shane opted to remove Ashley, 26-year-old mobile spray tanning company owner who currently resides in West Hollywood, CA, from the chopping block and replace her with Frank Eudy, an unemployed 28-year-old from Marion, AK who currently resides in Naples, FL.

But due to the twist, neither Frank or Joe, a 41-year-old chef from Lexington, KY who is originally from Schererville, ID, were evicted during the broadcast -- which had been billed as the season's third live eviction show.

Instead, all 12 contestants began competing in a new Head of Household competition that would determine the season's fourth HoH.  Big Brother will reveal the results of the HoH competition during Sunday night's broadcast.
