The original two nominees, after the "Battle of the Block" competition, were Caleb and Jocasta Odom.
However, after winning the Power of Veto competition, Donny Thompson decided to take Jocasta off the chopping block because she had been very ill and didn't even have an opportunity to compete in the PoV competition. Donny considered Jocasta a good friend in need.
Therefore, Derrick named Devin as the replacement nominee. Devin had been the entire house's No. 1 target since he was a strong competitor and utilized an untrustworthy, aggressive social game. Devin wasn't surprised at all, as he had been expecting to be "backdoored."
Also during Wednesday night's episode, Derrick and Cody Calafiore put Caleb on their target radar although they were all alliance members.
Caleb was getting frustrated with Cody for getting close to Amber Borzotra, whom he had a huge crush on. Amber was good friends with Cody but didn't like Caleb in return, so she was getting annoyed with him. Cody didn't want Caleb to eventually come after him out of spite.
Derrick really liked Caleb as a friend but realized that if it wasn't possible to put Devin up on the block, it would be a good time to get rid of Caleb since he was a big threat. Cody and Derrick agreed it might be their only chance to blindside and get Caleb out.
In addition, "Team America" completed its first mission of convincing three fellow Big Brother houseguests that Zach Rance is related to former houseguest Amanda Zuckerman. Donny, Derrick and Frankie Grande will each receive $5,000 for the successful mission.
Devin also cried about how he needs a miracle to avoid eviction. He feels like he had let his young daughter down.
