Blake Shelton said his first song with girlfriend Gwen Stefani, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," reflects their "remarkable" bond.
Shelton collaborated with Stefani on the track for his new album, If I'm Honest.
"We were at a point where it's like, 'Do we want to go there? What will people think?'" Shelton told People magazine. "And then we finally just got to the point where it's like, 'You know what? I don't give a [expletive]."
"I love this song!" the star added. "This song's important to us and the fact that we wrote it together is so important to both of us."
Stefani announced the duet this week by sharing a photo of a mock-up for Shelton's new album, which is scheduled for release May 20.The picture revealed the singer would appear on Shelton's song "Go Ahead and Break My Heart."
"[The duet] is very personal for us both because, you know, we obviously have this bond that is remarkable together," Shelton told Entertainment Tonight. "I hesitate to brag on it too much but I really think that it's as good of a song as I've ever written in my life."
Shelton and Stefani confirmed their relationship in November after splitting from their respective spouses, Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale, in months previous.
The couple initially met on NBC reality competition "The Voice."
