A planned TV series on Britain's Channel 4 focusing on patients with deformities undergoing reconstructive surgery has drawn strong criticism.

While the company behind the proposed series defends it as a means for patients to receive medical treatment, others have labeled it as a way to exploit those suffering from disfigurements, The Sunday Times of London reported.
"We have to be very careful to avoid exploitation of some of the most vulnerable people in our society," plastic surgeon Peter Butler said.
"Programs such as the one suggested are in danger of reinforcing a view that surgery or other interventions can solve every problem faced by people with these injuries. It can't."
Key among such complaints is the need for confidentiality for such surgical patients and the level of follow-up care those involved with the show will receive afterward, the newspaper said.
