The I Am Cait star was declared one of Glamour magazine's Women of the Year on Thursday, Us Weekly reported.
Glamour's editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, reportedly told the Associated Press that Jenner's selection as one of the Women of the Year wasn't exactly warmly received by the public considering the former Olympian recently transitioned into a female.
"[The backlash] certainly gives you an appreciation for the hostility to the trans community that still exists out there," Leive said. "We're proud of that and we're proud of what Caitlyn Jenner has done to illuminate what so many in the trans community go through."
"I started thinking, 'Maybe this is why God put me on earth,'" Jenner told Glamour, according to Us. "This issue has been swept under the rug for so long. I need to tell this story on the highest level you can possibly do it. Not just for me but for this entire community."

The other women receiving the honor reportedly include actress Reese Witherspoon, health advocate Cecile Richards, designer Victoria Beckham, entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, ballerina Misty Copeland, the U.S. women's national soccer team, and the five female "Peacemakers of Charleston" who were affected in June by the church massacre in South Carolina.
Jenner officially came out to the public as transgender in a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer this past April. Two months later, Jenner showed off her new look as a woman through the cover of Vanity Fair as well as a 22-page spread.
E! announced earlier this month the network has renewed I Am Cait for a second season scheduled to broadcast in 2016.
