Its exact format is apparently still undecided, but that hasn't stopped CBS from announcing open casting calls for Rock Star: The Series, the current working title for this summer's upcoming new edition of Rock Star: INXS

Although Rock Star's first season focused on finding a new frontman for one-time rock superstars INXS (a competition eventually won by Canadian J.D. Fortune), the creative direction of the show's second season (which will not involve INXS) is still being determined.

As of last month, several options were reportedly under consideration by Rock Star producers Mark Burnett and David Goffin, including a "creating a new band" concept that, at first glance, would sound similar to previous (and largely unsuccessful) reality projects such as The WB's Popstars (which actually pre-dated both American Idol and its British Pop Idol predecessor), ABC and MTV's Making The Band, and Fox's American Juniors. CBS' new casting announcement still makes no mention of exactly what singers responding to the casting call will be auditioning. Reached by Reality TV World, the show's network spokesperson confirmed that the show's "creatives" (creative direction) still had yet to be announced.

One thing that won't change for Rock Star's new season will be the show's co-hosts -- both Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke will return for this summer's second edition.

Rock Star: The Series auditions will be open to men and women all over the world who are at least 21 years old. In addition to auditioning during its North American open casting calls, interested singers can also apply via mail-in application. The deadline for all mail-in applications is March 25, 2006. Open auditions will finish on March 31, with the show's final interviews expected to take place in Los Angeles during May 2006.
