However CBS subsequently announced The Amazing Race's twelfth season would be airing earlier than expected as a replacement for Viva Laughlin, a musical drama series that CBS canceled after just one poorly-rated broadcast in its regularly scheduled Sundays at 8PM ET/PT time period.
Since the show's original midseason replacement status meant CBS only ordered one The Amazing Race edition for the 2007-2008 season, co-creator and executive producer Bertram van Munster told Reality TV World in an October interview that viewers were unlikely to see another installment this past spring as there probably wouldn't be enough time to cast, film and produce a thirteenth edition in time.
Casting for The Amazing Race's thirteenth season commenced last fall and the show is currently filming its finale in the Portland, OR area, The Oregonian reported Tuesday.
The Amazing Race's thirteenth season will air as part of CBS' Sunday night lineup, where it will be preceded by 60 Minutes in the 7PM ET/PT time slot and followed by Cold Case at 9PM ET/PT. In addition, CBS announced The Unit will air in its new Sundays at 10PM ET/PT time slot this fall.
In addition to The Amazing Race's thirteenth season, CBS formally announced Survivor: Gabon -- Earth's Last Eden -- the long-running reality show's seventeenth installment -- will air in the show's long-time Thursdays at 8PM ET/PT time period this fall.
