Cee Lo Green has issued an apology for making controversial comments on social media about rape versus what would be considered consensual sex -- messages of which he deleted afterwards before briefly deactivating his account.

"I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe," the 40-year-old former The Voice coach, formally known as Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, tweeted on Tuesday after reactivating his account.
The singer and songwriter then linked to a YouTube video of his own song "Bridges," writing, "This song is my absolute truth! It's all I ever wanted to be as an artist, man, and human being. I wholeheartedly believe I was born with this purpose. I love everyone, Lo."
Green had previously tweeted on Sunday, "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH implies consent... When someone brakes on a home there is broken glass where is your plausible proof anyone was raped."
Green, who stars on The Good Life, has gotten a lot of heat from both the media and fans for his comments, which stem from a July 2012 incident in which a woman accused him of drugging her in a Los Angeles sushi restaurant. She claimed she had woken up naked in Green's bed the morning after their night out with no memory of what happened after dinner.

In light of the singer's new controversy, TBS has canceled the series after only one season.
Green pleaded no contest to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy to an individual late last week. As part of his plea deal, Green is reportedly on probation for three years, must execute 360 hours of community service at the MusiCares Foundation of the Recording Academy, and attend 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with a private therapist.
In October 2013, Green pleaded not guilty and was facing up to four years in prison if convicted. No sexual assault charge had been pressed because there was reportedly a lack of sufficient evidence. Green will return to court on March 5, 2015 for a progress report, according to BuzzFeed.
Green starred on The Voice, which debuted in Spring 2011, for its first three seasons alongside fellow original coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
Green took a break in Season 4, when he was replaced by Usher, but then returned for the show's fifth season. He announced in February he was leaving the reality singing competition and never coming back.
