Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke has revealed she wanted DWTS producers to hire her to replace retiring judge Len Goodman on the show's panel, or as a co-host, but she was turned down.

Dancing with the Stars' 31st season on Disney+ was Cheryl's last season competing as a pro partner. She decided to retire from the reality dancing competition after 26 seasons and 16 years.

But Cheryl, 38, apparently just wanted to retire from having Dancing with the Stars celebrity partnerships -- not from the show in general.

During a recent appearance on "Talk Is Jericho" -- which is hosted by her Season 12 Dancing with the Stars partner, wrestler Chris Jericho -- Cheryl admitted she had been hoping to receive a promotion and work on the show as a judge or host for future seasons.

"I want to grow, whether that's in the family or not. That is not up to me when it comes to Dancing with the Stars," Cheryl shared when asked what's next for her.

"They are very well aware that I would want to -- I would have loved to have been able to do that with the family. However, they don't see a place for me, whether that be at the judges' table or a possible co-host."

Dancing with the Stars is currently hosted by Tyra Banks and co-hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro. The judges for Season 31, which aired in late 2022, were Len, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and former pro partner Derek Hough.

Although Derek won the most mirrorball trophies, Cheryl boasted 26 seasons is "the longest" anyone has been a pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars.

Given Cheryl is a fan-favorite, Chris pointed out how producers would probably love for her to continue performing as a pro partner.

"That's fine, and they can have me on every season -- just not as a pro dancer," Cheryl quipped.

Chris then clarified, "So what you're saying is you wanted to continue on the show as a judge?... Len Goodman retired [after 17 seasons]."

"Yeah, I would've loved that," Cheryl confirmed.

"However, I can't predict the future, and it is what it is. I do know, though, that I can't continue in the same [job]... My body is not as fast and sharp and precise as I want to be."

Cheryl acknowledged how she has high expectations for herself, even if they're "unrealistic" at her age.

"I feel like it's time. There's a lot of dancers who want my job, and it wouldn't be fair for me to just continue to linger in hopes that one day I get a promotion," Cheryl said.

"No, I've done 26 seasons and it's time to move on."

The choreographer added, "I am also in a period of my life where I am newly divorced and wanting to work on me and learn again and evolve."

At the end of the day, Cheryl said "it's okay" Dancing with the Stars can't find a new place for her.

"I'm grateful and thank you for this experience, but I'm going to move forward," she concluded.

Cheryl filed for divorce from actor Matthew Lawrence, her husband of nearly three years, in February 2022 and their divorce was finalized in September.

However the former couple's legal proceedings still continued until this month, when Cheryl and Matt finally reached a settlement in which Cheryl was awarded custody of her dog Ysabella.

Cheryl and Matthew met in 2006 and dated on and off for years before getting engaged in May 2018 and tying the knot one year later.

Cheryl announced she was retiring from Dancing with the Stars in November 2022, prior to the Disney+ series' Season 31 finale.

Cheryl joined Dancing with the Stars all the way back in Season 2 and won two mirrorball trophies over the years. The brunette beauty graced the ballroom almost every season since she joined the show, with the exception of five seasons to pursue other career interests.

Cheryl placed second on Dancing with the Stars twice and finished in third place a total of four times.

The pro dancer also finished in second place on the first season of I Can Do That, losing to Nicole Scherzinger. The talent competition aired on NBC in 2015.
