Chip Gaines would apparently love to have more children now that he and wife Joanna Gaines will have some free time thanks to the end of Fixer Upper, but Joanna holds the cards.

When talking to ABC News about why the couple pulled the plug on their popular HGTV reality show, Fixer Upper, Chip explained with a big smile, "We had four babies right before the show started and then we've had zero babies since the show started. For me, I'm really excited to go back and try to maybe make some more babies."

Joanna, 39, however, didn't seem to be on the same page.

"Maybe," Joanna replied, adding that they had "different answers" for why Fixer Upper is ending.

The adorable home-renovating team announced in September that Fixer Upper's upcoming fifth season would be its last. Chip and Joanna have been starring on the series since the show premiered with a pilot in May 2013 and began airing its first full season in April 2014.

During press interviews about their shocking decision, Chip, 42, said he was missing spontaneity in his career while Joanna felt time with their growing children -- Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 7 -- was slipping away too quickly.

Just last month, Joanna told Entertainment Tonight that rumors her marriage is on the rocks and she's pregnant were "funny," saying, "I guess people can just make this stuff up."

The couple have insisted their relationship is in great shape, however, Chip and Joanna feared that continuing Fixer Upper could eventually lead to marital problems they want to avoid at all costs.

"For us, the most important thing in the world is Jo and I's relationship, followed very quickly by these four beautiful kids [of ours]. We didn't want to push it, to redline it for so long that we woke up and realized we are at a point of no return. We wanted to take a step back and focus on what is absolutely the most important thing to us," Chip said during a recent Today show appearance.

"People in our inner circle, I tell them we're as healthy as we've ever been. I just didn't want to keep pushing this envelope to the fullest extent. We're really thankful that we had the opportunity to step back and take a break."

A source told Us Weekly that fame associated with Fixer Upper presented "a security issue" for the down-to-earth and humble family as well considering they appreciate their privacy.

"People drive by and like to take pictures in front of their house," an insider told the magazine. "I think they just want to take a step back from it."

"They're both so genuine and just great people," another insider shared. "They act just like they do when the cameras are rolling. It's all real; they're not fake at all."
