Chris Soules admits there was a waiting period after his split from Whitney Bischoff when he wasn't interested in dating at all, but now he's back on the horse and looking for his future wife.

Soules and Bischoff got engaged on The Bachelor's nineteenth season, which aired in March 2015. However, they announced their split in late May of that year.

"We stay in touch," Soules told Reality TV World of his ex-fiancee during a Memorial Day weekend appearance at Foxwoods Resort Casino's "Bachelor Weekend."

"It's like any relationship where you date somebody or are engaged and then you're no longer together. I mean, we don't talk every day, but I still care about her, and we stay in touch. I wish her well occasionally and she's somebody who will always be in my thoughts and prayers."

When his engagement ended, Soules confessed, "There was a time for a while when I was not really even ready to think about dating."

Soules said he and Bischoff went through a lot in order to move on from what they shared romantically.

"What we went through, of being engaged, you have to sort of let things heal and get back to [normal]," the former The Bachelor star said.

Now that a year has passed since his breakup, Soules insisted he's "absolutely" ready to start dating again.

"It's hard being really busy and traveling a lot to, you know, even have time to date. I've met a lot of cool people and really great girls, but I'm just all over the place. I definitely -- my heart is in the position to want to meet that person," Soules explained.

"Dating in real life right now is my priority, along with everything else in my life."

Soules, who says his Iowa farm is still his focus, has met great girls here or there, but he admitted no one has stolen his heart.

"There's things happening but nothing serious, you know? Just conversations, and I'm working on that part of my life. I'm being patient," Soules told Reality TV World, adding that he's not trying to date anyone in particular from The Bachelor franchise.

"When I meet her, I'll know, but I don't have anybody that I have a laser beam on. If I did, I probably would be dating her, you know? Right now, I'm just taking it one day at a time. There's a ton of great women in the world and in this country, so we'll see! I just don't have anything really in the works."
